Loving God with All Your Strength

In Luke 10:27, Jesus gives us a powerful command:
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind—and love your neighbor as yourself.”

This is not a partial love. It is an all-encompassing love. Heart. Soul. Mind. Strength. Every part of who we are.

We often find it easier to love God spiritually or emotionally. We sing, we pray, we feel deeply. But what about loving God with our strength? What about loving Him with our physical bodies?

Created on Purpose

Genesis 1:27 reminds us that we were created in the image of God. Psalm 139 declares that we are “fearfully and wonderfully made.” Our bodies are not accidents. They are intentional, designed by a loving Creator.

And 1 Corinthians 6:19–20 goes even further: our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. We do not belong to ourselves—we were bought at a price. That means caring for our bodies is not vanity; it is stewardship. It is worship.

Avoiding the Extremes

There are two dangers we must avoid:

  • Over-caring for the body, turning it into an idol.
  • Neglecting the body, treating it as unimportant or disposable.

Loving God with our strength means finding a healthy, God-honoring balance. We value our bodies because God values us.

What Does This Look Like Practically?

1. Choose Covenant Love
Love God like a covenant—like marriage vows: for better or worse, in sickness and in health. Loving God with your strength means choosing Him even when it’s inconvenient.

2. Worship with Your Body
Romans 12:1 calls us to offer our bodies as living sacrifices. Worship is not limited to Sunday mornings. It can happen in everyday moments—like choosing wisely when standing in front of the fridge. Even physical limitations can become worship when surrendered to God.

3. Pay Attention
Proverbs 4:20–22 says God’s words bring life and health. Loving God with your strength means paying attention—to His Word and to your body. Listen when you are exhausted. Recognize the effects of stress. Seek wisdom from doctors, loved ones, and Scripture.

4. Practice Gratefulness
Gratitude changes everything. Thank God for your sight, your breath, your ability to move, to sleep, to think. A thankful heart fuels faithful stewardship.

True Life Is Found Here

Jesus said in John 10:10 that He came to bring life in abundance. That abundant life begins when we love God fully—not just with emotion or intention, but with our whole being.

Loving God with all your strength means honoring Him with your body, stewarding what He has given you, and living in grateful obedience.

This is not about perfection.
It is about devotion.
